LAKE BOB SANDLIN
Mt. Pleasant-Pittsburg, Texas
Lake Bob Sandlin, located on Big Cypress Creek was constructed in 1977. Lake Bob Sandlin was named after a local businessman and civic leader Bob Sandlin. The lake is 6 miles southwest of Mt. Pleasant and 6 miles northwest of Pittsburg. The lake consists of 9,460 acres which back up to the dam of Lake Cypress Springs and Lake Monticello.
Stocked with Florida bass and channel catfish, Lake Bob Sandlin is recognized as a prime fishing lake. Another popular fish is crappie. Much of the timber was not removed from the lake which provides excellent “fishing holes.” Bob Sandlin has become a top bass-fishing lake for anglers. Duck hunting is another favorite sport on Sandlin
Franklin County home of Lake Cypress Springs is known as the “Gateway to Bob Sandlin.”
Lake Bob Sandlin has a long standing history of the Caddo, Choctaw, Cherokee and Kickapoo Indians. Fort Sherman, a wooden stockade is believed to be near the existing state park on Sandlin. The Bob Sandlin State Park consists of 639 heavily wooded acres with campsites, hiking trails and a fishing pier. The lake also offers a marina, boat ramps, cabin rentals and a fish restaurant. There are many areas on Bob Sandlin for swimming, skiing, and wake boarding.
Bob Sandlin is home to permanent residents as well as weekenders from DFW and neighboring states.
